At the Right to Energy Forum, we presented the SOCIALNRG EU-funded initiative to the Brussels world for the first time. The project aims to create lasting energy communities for 460 families across Belgium, Italy, and Slovenia.
Coordinated by Housing Europe, the initiative involves key partners such as the Flemish social housing provider Woonland, the cooperative Finabita in Italy, and the affordable housing provider STAN in Slovenia, who are leading pilot projects in energy-efficient renovations, including solar panels, heat pumps, and fossil-free homes.
Housing Europe’s Policy Director, Julien Dijol, emphasised how social housing providers are turning co-benefits into action by providing cleaner energy and significant savings. For instance, social housing in Paris has seen a reduction in energy consumption by approximately 28% on average, saving 2,236 kWh per home per year.
